Losing the Future - Mark Steyn - National Review Online

Losing the Future - Mark Steyn - National Review Online

A wonderful take on the Joker's message on winning the future. If we keep this up there will be no future. We need to stop pouring money down the liberal rabbit holes and start cutting our loses, starting with the departments that have failed miserably in their missions, Energy and Education. I think we need to stop sending money to Washington to solve a local problem, who could make better use of the money Washington or your local school board? I know some school boards our nuts, but you can actually meet with them not like you can do that with anyone at the Dept. of Wasted Tax Dollars. DOE is another failure because we are now more dependent on foreign oil than when they were formed, so lets call it a failed experiment and revoke their charter. Why do we send so much gas tax to Washington, when that money could be more directly used by the states without the feds taking their skim and wasting it on roads to nowhere. If you don't have a lot of gas tax revenue in your state then you really don't need a lot of new roads now do you, so lets stop sending our money to Washington to be stolen or wasted. The fact that people think it is okay for Washington to have anything to do with education is ridiculous. The only thing that Washington should be doing about highways is ensuring that there are interstates and that the trucks driving on them are safe. They should not be deciding which local roads and bridges are built and they sure and the hell should not be spending a dime of my gas tax in Alaska or WV for roads that no one needs or even wants. If we want to change the future, we need to return the power to the states and cities where we can actually be heard and obeyed (and I did say obeyed because last I checked they are our elected representatives not our lords).
